Nikki Haley quits her day job

So now she’s going to pin it all on running for governor. Not what most people would call a wise bet. Anyway, here’s the news:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — State Rep. Nikki Haley has quit her $110,000-a-year job at a hospital foundation in South Carolina.

Lexington Medical Center board member Lyman Whitehead said Tuesday that Haley’s departure was announced at a board meeting last week.

Haley campaign spokesman Tim Pearson said he would have to speak with Haley before offering comment.

Lexington Medical spokeswoman Jennifer Wilson said Haley voluntarily left to run full time for governor and her last day was Friday….

A move like this really calls her judgment into question.

Brad, I agree with you 99% of the time, which simply means that you are correct in the vast majority of situations. I differ with you this time, though, concerning Haley’s quitting of her day job. She may indeed lack judgment — like a fox.

When Jane and I began courting, our homes were a thousand miles apart. After a couple of months of this, she announced she was moving to Columbia. Despite my stammering protestations and recitations of the risks in her giving up everything to be near a guy who was not ready to make a commitment, she packed the connastoga and re-rooted in Columbia. That commitment in and of itself was the most powerful sign she could have given me concerning her interest in me, and within 3 short months, we began planning our wedding, which, Gott sei dank, has lasted nearly thirty happy years.

So Nicki, lose your judgment and pursue those hearts!

Great story, Michael. I did something similar to be with my bride. I left Utah after 18 years there and while having a successful career in state government. I packed the U-Haul, my 2 dogs and one cat, and drove to South Carolina. I left on a Wednesday afternoon and arrived around noon on Friday. We were married that evening. I followed my heart, and it was by far the best decision I ever made!

Well, God bless you, Michael, but don’t you think that for every situation like yours, where one person moved heaven and earth to be with the other person and it worked, there are several more with broken hearts and empty wallets.

Steve Benjamin quit his day job to campaign, before Coble was out and Kirkman and Morrison in, and things could have broken very differently for him than they did. He also has some significant investments (like the Hilton) though what cash flow they produce I do not know.

    What does Nikki’s husband do?

Thank you, Burl, for cutting to the chase.

Let’s focus here, people — if these candidates quit their jobs, how are they going to buy ads on my blog? This is serious…

Brad, don’t worry, the stealth candidates will all buy ads on your blog.

Oh, speaking of ads, some posts down you commented that when you visited some website or other, you got an ad for some porn website or something. It’s interesting how that stuff works. I have been planning trips to Canada, doing various searches and going to various websites for hotels and restaurants and things. When I went to a lot of websites, I got ads for travel and tourist services in Canada. Then later I started doing research on trips to Las Vegas, and the ads I got started to be directed to Las Vegas.

You should look into it for your blog. There are automatic services for putting ads on websites. The ads are chosen automatically, and I think you get paid based on the number of readers you have.

I was hoping you’d expound on that statement rather than leaving it hanging out there as if it was obvious what error in judgment she was making.

She’s leaving a job to focus on her run for an even more important job. I would assume she has considered the economic factors for her family to give up the job.
I would also assume that she must be fairly confident that if her campaign is not successful, that she believes she can get another job.

Unlike Bauer, Barrett, and McMaster who can use their current jobs as a front for campaigning, Ms. Haley cannot. It would be very interesting to have some insight into whether any of those three spend any time during their day working on campaign activities when they are being paid by taxpayers.

Does your blog have a post-election clean-up policy for election signs? The elections are over, but the signs remain.

Burl, good question. I was leaving them up until I got some more ads, but I’ve been so busy the last few days I haven’t had time to devote to sales pressure.

I was thinking it was easy to sell ads when people could see what they look like.

But when they’re this old, they’re likely to be a drag on sales, huh?

Oh, and on the related subject Michael P. brings up — I was impressed that Leona Plaugh was (at least by her account) being very meticulous about keeping up with where her signs went up, updating her database every day. The idea in part was to make sure she could round them all up when the race was over. I’m curious to know how successful she’s been with that. Has anyone noticed? I haven’t been in her district in the last few days…

Nikki will get last minute money contributions from the many shell LLCs operated by NY real estate mogul, Howard Rich.

Yeah, those are the ads I just mentioned.

I’m having some work done to the blog that will probably be completed tomorrow, and we’ll take those down along the way.

What Doug said deserves discussion. I agree with him, for one.

Per yesterday’s The State: Leona’s signs were featured prominently in the stack photographed at the city solid waste facility where they are awaiting pickup. Guess she missed quite a few.

Nikki Haley changed her religion and converted to Christianity before entering into politics just to get popularity…If she cannot be sincere to her faith, how can she be sincere to SC and this country?? Changing religion for personals reasons is understandable, but changing religion to gain political popularity is a different thing.
